Automotive design has a new acceleration “engine”: NVIDIA RTX.
Autodesk has released the latest version of its automotive 3D visualization software VRED 2021, which now supports NVIDIA Quadro RTX. Designers can create and design like never before with powerful GPU technology.
Autodesk VRED previously only supported CPU. Today, it can meet the high demands of consumers with RTX technology, while providing interactive ray tracing and AI noise reduction. This enables users to get instant visual feedback to see how the vehicle looks in different environments in real time.
By transforming vast amounts of digital design and engineering data into photorealistic renderings in VRED, professionals can make better-informed decisions throughout the design and development process and accelerate time-to-market.
Real-time rendering, see the results in real-time
Users can use Autodesk VRED to create digital prototypes to gain insight into vehicle appearance and performance. To effectively guide design decisions, digital prototypes must look and perform as close to the physical as possible.

With RTX-accelerated VRED, professionals can create detailed product demonstrations, design reviews, and virtual prototypes in real-time. VRED users can also achieve scalable rendering with realistic physical detail on the GPU, and can connect multiple NVIDIA RTX servers to improve real-time and offline rendering performance.
Extremely fast design tools to create extremely fast vehicles
Alstom, a leader in the transportation industry, designs and manufactures trains, including one of the fastest trains in the world, the French TGV. Currently, many car designers are using virtual reality (VR) technology for their design work, and Alstom has taken graphic design technology further, using a large number of train models for real-time design reviews.

AI denoiser delivers noise-free images in real time
In addition to real-time ray tracing and rendering, VRED also uses RTX for AI denoising.
Designers use both NVIDIA’s AI-accelerated denoiser and VRED’s scalable ray tracing to remove all grain from renders and create noise-free interactive images in real time.
The workflow provides users with instant visual feedback, enabling them to see and interact with the latest designs, exploring the impact of variables such as light, materials, perspective, and shadows on the design.
Designers can now see how the car’s appearance will look in different environments, which is critical to confirming that a car prototype meets specific requirements before finalizing the design.
